Stock that brings customers across town

Markets Competition Economy

Customers can travel beyond a store's local radius when no closer operating store stocks the product they want. A distinctive assortment can attract shoppers from across the same city.

Local shopping still follows the store's radius. Larger sales floors keep their wider neighborhood coverage.

Products unavailable nearby can draw customers from farther away. For each product, residents outside a store's local radius can visit the nearest operating store with that product in stock, within the same city. Equally close stores share that opportunity. A closer stocked alternative removes this extra reach for that product.

The radius and resident count in Sales overview describe local coverage. Wider reach depends on each product's availability around the city, so it is not a single larger radius or population total.

Distance still matters. Farther trips attract fewer visitors. A larger local radius makes a store more attractive to distant customers too.

This changes where existing customers can shop. It does not create demand or guarantee a purchase: prices, household budgets, inventory, staffing and shared checkout capacity still matter.
